What's the difference between therapy and coaching?

At Mitchell Therapeutic Services, therapy and coaching are both intentional paths toward growth—but they serve different needs.

  • Therapy is clinical care designed to address emotional injuries, unresolved attachment wounds, trauma, anxiety, depression, or relational patterns that create ongoing distress. Therapy is regulated by state licensure and focuses on helping you stabilize, heal, and restore emotional health—especially when stress, burnout, or relationship strain begin to affect your performance, marriage, or sense of self.

  • Coaching is built for men who are already functioning at a high level but know they could be leading, relating, or living with more clarity and intention. Coaching is future-focused and action-oriented. It helps you strengthen emotional intelligence, improve communication and leadership at home and work, and shift patterns like over-functioning, emotional shutdown, or carrying everything alone.

What makes MTS coaching different is that it's informed by clinical expertise without being therapy. I bring the depth of attachment-based and relational training into the coaching space while keeping the work collaborative, strategic, and forward-moving—focused on execution, accountability, and real-world change
